Hi Friends,

For a long time, I was planning to have a talk with you guys, to share my experience in the journey of my SFDC career.

So here I am finally. Believe me, my 1st talk is going to be boring but we have to discuss this before moving ahead.

I will go in brief to bring the points which are required to know before starting your career in Salesforce.

So, when I hear the word Salesforce.com… what should come to my mind?

Let’s discuss that.

History of Salesforce:
  • Salesforce.com was founded by former Oracle executives Marc Benioff, Parker Harris, Dave Moellenhoff, and Frank Dominguez in 1999.
  • Salesforce is the cloud-based world’s #1 CRM platform.
  • Primarily specialized in software as a service (SaaS) and now has the platform as a service(PaaS).
Cloud Computing:

Ok, now you know the basic history of Salesforce. Now it’s time to know some basic related concepts.

Salesforce is a cloud-based CRM platform, which means it’s cloud computing.

Cloud computing is a remote application that does not require installing any software to run. The only thing you require is a computer with a fast browser and internet.

The services provided by cloud-based applications are divided into three major categories. Those are

  1. Software as a Service (SaaS)
  2. Platform as a Service (PaaS)
  3. Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)

SaaS: In a simple sentence, Software is licensed on a subscription basis and is centrally hosted.

That means you have the software for your use (on-demand software) without installing in hardware.

Salesforce has SaaS-based products where a business only has to pay for what they need.

IaaS: The provider hosts hardware, software, storage, and other infrastructure components.

PaaS: Now comes the magic wand of developers.

It provides a platform allowing its customers to develop, run, and manage applications without the complexity of building and maintaining the infrastructure typically associated with developing and launching an app.

Salesforce provides cost-effective and specialized models through which developer-only focus on building efficient applications rather than worrying about maintaining the hardware and software.
